first_imgWhatsApp by Alan [email protected] up for the weekly Limerick Post newsletter Sign Up Benjy the bullWITH the marriage equality referendum due to take place this Friday, May 22, a Limerick animal rights group is reminding people across Ireland that gay sexual orientation is also documented in over 1500 species of different animals.According to John Carmody of Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN), Benjy the ‘gay’ bull who became an international symbol for animal and gay rights late last year, would also vote yes in the marriage equality referendum.“Benjy became an international symbol of animal and gay rights last year and made quiet a lot of country and town folk who would have never thought otherwise about animals being gay, think twice about the fact that being gay is a natural occurrence in not only humans, but bulls, bears, penguins and even gorillas,” John told the Limerick Post.“When it comes to a yes vote for Benjy, we know only too well that he would if he could,” he said. While moving in with a roommate vs. living alone is guaranteed to cut your payments in half, starter homes can be a wiser long-term investment. If getting a roommate is necessary, it will be easier to do so in the larger space a starter home provides compared to a rental unit. In the report, Trulia assumes buyers are making the choice to take on a 30-year fixed rate loan and paying 20 percent upfront if they buy, but based on the data, “buying a home is 37.4 percent cheaper for households who move every seven years” than renting. When Trulia accounted for the total monthly costs of buying a starter home, including mortgage payments, maintenance, insurance, and taxes, Michigan, Florida, Alabama, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee all contained cities showing starter homes to be 50 percent cheaper to buy than renting a housing unit with someone else over seven years. The cities include Detroit, West Palm Beach, Birmingham, Philadelphia, Memphis, and Knoxville respectively.In Detroit, a starter home can be purchased for as low as $16,463, whereas a home in West Palm Beach can be purchased for $107,083. Homes in Birmingham, Philadelphia, Memphis and Knoxville can all be purchased for less than $60,000 based on Trulia’s data. Still, it’s important to act on these starter homes quickly, as Trulia’s recent Price and Inventory Watch found a 20.4 percent drop in starter home inventory year-over-year nationwide.To calculate the cost of buying and renting, Trulia used their quality-adjusted measure of home prices and rentals, calculated initial and future monthly costs, and took into account expected price and rent appreciation as well as projected inflation. They also factored in one-time costs and proceeds, including closing costs, down payments, sale proceeds, and security deposits.To see the full methodology and data sets, click here. More merchants ready for #EMV chip cards

first_imgby: Brandon KuehlA staggering number of EMV chip cards are expected to be delivered to the homes of American consumers over the coming months.The International Card Manufacturers Association anticipates its U.S. and Canadian member companies will produce more than 1.5 billion payment cards in 2015. This breaks down to 60 percent magnetic-stripe and 40 percent chip. Of those chip cards, 89 percent – or more than 575 million – are going to American consumers.In 2016, for the first time ever, chip card production will outpace that of magnetic-stripe, with chip expected to make up 55 percent of the nearly 2 billion payment cards forecast to be produced. This would result in nearly 9 million chip cards shipped to American consumers in 2016.Additionally, total retailers reporting they will be equipped to support EMV chip transactions by the October 2015 liability shift deadline has increased by 650 percent. That’s according to technology consultancy Boston Retail Partners’ (BRPs’) latest survey.
