Podolski accepts if Arsene Wenger’s squad are to close that gap over the next 12 months, then they cannot afford to be second best when they line up against City, Liverpool and Chelsea again, having suffered heavy away defeats at all three. “It is not easy to [look back on the season finishing fourth] when you are on top of the league for weeks and weeks,” said the Germany international. “But we lost against the clubs around us to Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea and these are the points we miss. Next season we must now focus as well on big games.” Podolski continued: “Now we have to focus on the FA Cup final and after the season, the boss and the staff will look at the matches and what was good and what was not so good. “We will see and we must change that next season, but it is not easy. “This is the Premier League, which is not like other leagues. Every year, you have six or seven teams who fight to be champions and as well the teams who are at the bottom fight every game. “But I think we played well in the season and if we can win the FA Cup final, then it is a good season for us.” Ramsey’s moment of brilliance, volleying home a floated cross from Olivier Giroud at the far post, finally broke the deadlock at Carrow Road after John Ruddy had made some decent first-half saves. Press Association The Gunners signed off with a 2-0 win over Norwich, which confirmed relegation for the Norfolk club, to end their campaign just seven points behind champions Manchester City. Arsenal had led the table for some 128 days before falling away in mid-February following the loss of key men to injury – notably Aaron Ramsey, who scored a fine goal at Carrow Road – and then rallying to end with five straight wins after beating Wigan on penalties to book their place in the FA Cup final. The Wales midfielder hopes Arsenal can carry their recent momentum into the FA Cup final against Hull, which will offer England midfielder Jack Wilshere the chance of another run-out, having made a welcome return from a fractured foot with a substitute’s appearance on Sunday. “We have got 79 points and that is an improvement on last season. It was important to win before we go into the FA Cup final,” Ramsey said. “[Everyone] wants to play in finals and we have one now, so I am looking forward to that. “We haven’t won anything for many years now so this would be a great trophy to win and I am sure that if we do win it, it will make us more hungry to go on, get to more finals and win more trophies.” Full-back Carl Jenkinson added a second for Arsenal when he swept the ball in from close range – before wheeling away in delight to celebrate his first club goal in front of the travelling support in what was a special moment for the life-long Gunners fan. “As a kid, I have scored that goal 100 times in my back garden and celebrated like I am celebrating in front of the fans. I have done it for real now and it was the best feeling in the world,” Jenkinson said on Arsenal Player. “I am a defender so I am not going to score too many goals and hopefully that will kick-start it now and I will get a few more.” Forward Lukas Podolski maintains Arsenal must not make the same mistakes again when tackling the Barclays Premier League’s top three if they are to last the distance in next season’s championship race.

“I try to dangle around my dog once in a while with my stick — I have a stick in my basement,” Draisaitl said with a laugh. “But other than that there’s not much opportunity for me to work on my skills or anything like that.””I try to dangle around my dog once in a while.”Leon currently on a video chat with the #Oilers media contingent, asked how he’s keeping his hockey skills sharp during the @NHL season pause🐶🏒#HockeyAtHome | #LetsGoOilers pic.twitter.com/xiHBHG6ULe— Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) March 30, 2020While the German-born star has been trying to keep it lighthearted as he waits out the pandemic in his Edmonton home, his thoughts are also with his family in his homeland. Draisaitl said that his loved ones in Germany are safe and following the instructions set by governments worldwide as COVID-19 continues its devastation.”My family is doing what they’re supposed to do, they’re staying in. So far everyone’s healthy. I hope that it stays that way, back home they’re doing what they’re supposed to do right now,” Draisaitl said, adding that he considered returning to Germany but decided against it. “It definitely crossed my mind, but I don’t think it makes much sense for me to go there right now, especially since it’s probably worse over there than it is here. So yeah, I thought about it, but I think I’m in a good place here right now.” But many sport-specific exercises have taken a back seat during the pandemic, or they’ve been heavily altered as even the most lavish houses cannot compete with the first-class training facilities that most top-tier athletes are used to accessing through their respective teams.Coronavirus and the NHL: Tracking how the pandemic has impacted hockey’s landscapeThis is the case for Leon Draisaitl, the Edmonton Oilers star who built up a 13-point lead atop the NHL scoring charts before the league was paused in an attempt to help halt the spread of the coronavirus. Draisaitl is a scoring machine who crossed the 100-point threshold for the second straight year despite the Oilers still having 11 unfinished games in the suspended season, and in addition to being the runaway leader in the race for the Art Ross Trophy, he’s also an odds-on favorite to win the Hart Trophy as the league’s most valuable player.Despite his excellent personal season and the success of the Oilers overall, Draisaitl says the right call was made to shut down all sports leagues and large gatherings in general. He shares in the fans’ frustrations of having no hockey but believes in the self-isolation methods mandated by governments worldwide.”Just stay positive, stick with it just like we are,” Draisaitl told reporters via video conference on Monday. “We all want to play, we all want to get back to playing as soon as possible, but right now there’s more important things in the world going on and we have to accept that. Hopefully, we can all get back to playing soon.”Along with the rest of the players in the NHL, Draisaitl has been asked to remain as sharp as possible for an unspecified return to the ice. General fitness is not a problem, as the 24-year-old says he has workout equipment at home, but maintaining hockey sharpness is something that he’s finding to be a challenge these days. With no access to a rink, Draisaitl is proving that necessity truly is the mother of invention. Sometimes you have to make do.Amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, athletes have been forced to alter their usual workout routines as they remain in self-isolation like the rest of us. Many have home gyms, so strength training and cardio can still be achieved.
Share on: WhatsApp Pages: 1 2 Entebbe, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The father of Uganda’s double gold medal winner at the just ended Commonwealth Games has expressed his unhappiness on how the government treats family and friends of medal winners.Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei won gold for Uganda in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Games that climaxed on Sunday in Gold Coast, Australia. The team returned on Thursday afternoon and members from the Sebei Community, where Cheptegei comes from, were unfortunately first denied access to Entebbe International Airport and later the Old Airport VVIP Section to receive the team.“This is very unfortunate because we travelled from Kapchorwa to receive our children and now we have been denied chance to welcome them because the government wants to run the show. This is very bad,” Cheptegi’s father Stephenson Munerya Kwalya told URN. They had first been denied access at the Old Airport VVIP Section where the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, was welcoming the team.Kwalya said there was no way him and his wife would enter the building unless the relatives who also travelled from Kapchorwa were allowed in. When State House staff Norah Nassimbwa arrived at the gate asking for Cheptegei’s mother, security then allowed all Sebei community members to enter, but were again denied entry to the Hall where a press conference was held. Only Cheptegei’s parents were allowed inside the Hall. The arrival of the team and planning was obviously not well coordinated as many members including some from the National Council of Sports (NCS) were bounced at the entrance.Major Juma Seiko, an aide of Gen Salim Saleh, the head of Operation Wealth Creation, was also a victim as he was seen crying after he was denied entrance to the Hall where the press conference took place. Seiko was heard abusing some security officers whom he said accused him of stopping Cheptegei’s parents from entering without other members from the Sebei community.“How can a junior officer accuse me of something I have not done and tarnishing my name in-front of the First Lady. I have served the army for 39 years and you cannot spoil my name like this,” said Seiko as his tears rolls down the face.Major Seiko is also a member from the Sebei community and occasionally comes to Entebbe International Airport to welcome athletes from Kapchorwa who win medals. Some of the athletes including Mose Kipsiro occasionally stay at his house in Nakasero when they are in Kampala.
