The Department of MechanicalEngineering at SJSU has three stems: design, mechatronics, andthermal-fluid sciences. Design and thermal-fluid sciences are thebackbone of all accredited mechanical engineering programs in thecountry. Applicants must have astrong academic background in mechanical engineering, as evidencedby a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering orclosely related field, and expertise in mechatronics. Applicantsmust have demonstrated experience in a field of mechatronics suchas robotics, automation, artificial intelligence, embedded systems,human-machine interface, etc.Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching inclassroom and in hardware laboratory settings using a variety ofpedagogical techniques and technological tools to reach a diversepopulation. They should also demonstrate potential for excellencein scholarly research, with an expectation of peer-reviewedpublications and professional presentations.
