O’Brien duo could be leading lights

first_img The Ballydoyle handler said of Leading Light: “When the races are coming up that close you don’t get chance to change much. Before Ascot his runs were over a mile and a quarter, then it was two miles in Ascot, and then it was back to a mile and six in the Leger. He’s back another two furlongs again, so you’re just hoping he’s learning as he’s going along. “We were very happy with him in Doncaster. We wanted to run him in York beforehand, but he wasn’t 100%, so we were a bit worried going into Doncaster he was going to need the run, but he seemed to get away with it.” Of Ruler Of The World, O’Brien told www.coolmore.com: “Ruler Of The World ran really well in his Arc trial in France on his last run. We have been very happy with him since, he goes there in good form and we hope he runs well.” The success story of the season in the saddle has been Johnny Murtagh, revitalised since he began training earlier this year. He again rides Novellist, trained by Andreas Wohler in Germany and a most impressive winner of the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Since then he has won another Group One in Germany – his fourth top-level triumph in four different countries since last October – though he wasn’t as scintillating. Murtagh said: “I just keep going back to the King George. What he did that day was very impressive. You can read too much into the trial race if you want, but King George day was the day he showed everyone what he was capable of. “He’s a very high-class horse. He’s going into the race with a good profile.” Press Association Aidan O’Brien goes into Sunday’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp with high hopes of his two Classic winners, Derby hero Ruler Of The World and St Leger victor Leading Light.center_img As both are three-year-olds who carry just 8st 11lb on the weight-for-age scale, it leaves stable jockey Joseph O’Brien without a ride as his minimum weight is around the 9st mark. O’Brien has called on French veteran Gerald Mosse for Leading Light, while Ryan Moore maintains his partnership with Ruler Of The World. last_img
