Gov. DeSantis Orders State Flags at Half-Staff for Pulse Anniversary

Ron DeSantis has ordered that all state flags be flown at half staff on Friday, to mark four years since the deadly shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando.On June 12, 2016, Omar Mateen opened fire in the LGBTQ nightclub on “Latin Night,” killing 49 people and injuring 53 others.He was later killed in a gunfight with SWAT officers.At that time, it was considered the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.“The State of Florida will not tolerate hatred towards the LGBTQ and Hispanic communities, and as Floridians we stand united against terrorism and hate of any kind,” DeSantis said.He continued, “We will never forget the selflessness of those who risked their lives in the face of danger, nor the courage demonstrated by our law enforcement and first responders who were on the scene within minutes to provide assistance to the injured and victims of the shooting.”The governor is also directing all Florida residents to pause for a moment of silence at 9 a.m. Friday.last_img
