This Ice Skater Created An Entire Routine Based On Sailor Moon

first_img The Best and Most Loved Anime Series of All TimeThe Best Anime On Hulu Stay on target Figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva is a serious anime fan, so when she works on special figure skating routines, she’s not afraid to incorporate her love of anime into the mix. This year at the International Skating Union, where the annual World Team Trophy in Figure Skating is held, Evgenia was selected for her country as a part of Team Russia. She decided to use a Sailor Moon-themed routine for her entry. For one of her performances, she chose to skate to “Moonlight Densetsu,” the original Japanese-language opening for the classic magical girl anime series. She came out onto the ice dressed as protagonist Usagi Tsukino (Serena) and then doffed Usagi’s school uniform for a re-enactment of Usagi’s transformation into Sailor Moon at the beginning of the performance. She’s singing along to the theme song as she zips around the ice, her hair in twin-tails with buns just like Usagi, and before the end of her performance she ends things with Sailor Moon’s signature pose and the phrase “Tsuki ni kawatte, oshioki yo!” That’s “In the name of the moon, I’ll punish you!” for all you non-Sailor Moon fans.AdChoices广告It was a joy to watch Medvedeva swirl around on the ice like some sort of moon princess herself, and the performance was a gorgeous homage to the bombastically popular Sailor Moon series. It’s clear this girl is standing for us otaku, and I’d love to meet and pick her brain about some of her favorite Sailor Moon moments. She’s clearly making her mark on the figure skating community as well as Japanese fans, and this is a girl I’d love to see more amazing anime-inspired routines from.Check out her full routine in the video below and marvel at her transformation sequence as well as perfectly choreograph lip movements to the song and Usagi’s dialogue.last_img
